1. The Peter Rabbit Movie is based on the bestselling book by Beatrix Potter called “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and was officially released in 1902. “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” was Potter’s first release and was followed by other tales about other animal characters.

2. Peter Rabbit is one of Beatrix Potter’s earliest stories along with an additional 22 tales about animals. Among these are “The Tale of Benjamin Bunny”, “The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin” and many others.

3. Beatrix Potter was struggling to get a publisher to release her book about Peter Rabbit and it was not until she took the bull by the horns and printed herself an initial 250 copies in late 1901 for her friends and family that the book became public. Shortly after Frederick Warne & Co. decided to publish it due to its quickly arising success, and when it came out in 1902 it became an instant bestseller.

4. Due to the massive success of “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, it was translated into no more than 36 different languages and became one of the highest selling books of all time with more than 45 million copies sold worldwide.

5. Beatrix Potter's desire was to create more than books, and she therefore began to design and create the first Peter Rabbit doll in 1903 and the moment the Peter Rabbit Doll was done, she took it to the office of patent to get it registered. This made Peter Rabbit the world’s oldest licensed literary character.

6. The doll was her first creation. Later on came Peter Rabbit tea sets and bedroom slippers among other. She felt very passionate about the merchandise, wanting it to be of highest quality and remain truthful to the illustrations in her original books.

7. Since her first publication, Beatrix Potter has had success with all of her books. They quickly became bestsellers and today they are still popular. Actually so popular, that more than two million copies are sold every year around the world, which counts as four books every minute.

8. In 2010 the actress and writer Emma Thompson received a package containing a half-eaten radish leaf and a letter from no other than Peter Rabbit. He asked her to write another adventure about him. She accepted the challenge and named the book “The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit”.

9. The idea of creating a 24th book about Beatrix Potter’s beloved animal series came from the original publisher Frederick Warne & Co. To honour the 110th anniversary for the original and official publication they wanted to publish one more, and in 2012 the book was released.

10. Although the official release date of the new Peter Rabbit movie in the U.S. was on February 9th 2018, a 2015 leak revealed the possibility of a Peter Rabbit movie from an email correspondence back in 2013 between Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures.
