At 8 months old, Baris, named after the Turkish word for "peace," was found wandering through the rubble of the city of al-Bab, outside Aleppo in Syria and was rescued and taken to an animal shelter by a Turkish soldier.
Now, this miraculously lucky cat lives in a book shop owned by the Kirmizi Kedi (Red Cat) Publishing House in Istanbul, Turkey. Hundreds applied to adopt this "peace cat" but with such a fitting name, Red Cat was the natural choice to take Baris home.
The fact that Baris will live in a publishing house whose name is ‘Red Cat’ is the right ending for his own story. Baris came to Kirmizi Kedi and I hope peace will also come to Syria and Middle East.
