What is closest to your build?

How tall are you for your age?

How heavy are you for your age?

How fast and agile are you?

How strong and powerful are you?

Do you pick up skills well?

What would you be best at/prefer doing?

Are you tough?

Prop (1 & 3)

Prop (1 & 3)

Stocky and strong, props are the foundation of the scrum and important in line-outs. You power the ball forward and tackle hard, using your well developed legs and upper-body to push hard in rucks and mauls.

Hooker (2)

Hooker (2)

Short, solid and tough, hookers are smaller front-rows, but make up for it with grit and skill. You are part of the backbone in the team. Securing possession in scrums and throwing in for line-outs, you are truly an important player.

Second Row or Lock (4 & 5)

Second Row or Lock (4 & 5)

Tall and strong, you guys are the giants of the team. You are the powerhouse in the scrum, jumpers in line-outs and primary ruckers. You use your impressive leg leverage and strength to win rucks and scrums, secure the ball in the line-out and topple over defenders. You may not be the prettiest, but you are intimidating.

Flanker (6 & 7)

Flanker (6 & 7)

Strong and mobile, flankers are everywhere on the field and tackle the most. Whether it be smashing the backs after breaking off the scrum, supporting forwards and backs in the line-out or stealing the ball, you guys are a true all-rounder, in defence and attack

No. 8 (8)

No. 8 (8)

Big and fast, you may have the most simple name but not the most simple job. You are built like a second-row, but play more like a flanker. You are part of the team backbone because you are the link between the forwards and the backs. You possess the strength and power of the forwards, and the speed and skill of the backs. You pretty much do everything, such as securing the ball in the scrum, supporting the line-outs, running hard, tackling hard and rucking hard.

Scrum-half and Fly-half (9 & 10)

Scrum-half and Fly-half (9 & 10)

Smaller, but fit, fast and strong for your size, you need to have good ball handling, passing, kicking and must have a good game-head. You decide if the forwards keep the ball, or it is time to spread it out to the backs, so you need to be smart and skillful. You set up plays, pass it out, kick and defend when necessary. You might not be the biggest or fastest, but you sure are the most tactical.

Centre (12 & 13)

Centre (12 & 13)

Fast, powerful, skillful and athletic, centres are another allrounder. They are pretty much flanker or no.8 in the backs. They run hard trying to penetrate the defence, defend hard and ruck when necessary. You need good ball-handling, passing, catching, kicking, strong running lines, speed, agility and good tackling and rucking skills.

Wingers and Fullback (11, 14 & 15)

Wingers and Fullback (11, 14 & 15)

Extremely fast and agile, you guys are the finishers on the team. You use your superior speed to run around the defenders, and tackling skills as the last line of defence. Wingers and the Fullback are equivalent to wide receivers in attack, and cornerbacks and safeties in defence. You guys may not do all THAT much, compared to flankers, but your job is the hardest and most pressuring. You need speed, agility, good hands and tackling, as well as an eye for the gap.
