Back in February of 2017, President Trump signed one of his first resolutions with HJ Resolution 40. That bill made it much easier for those people with mental illness to legally obtain firearms. It's been reported that CBS News then made twelve requests to the White House asking for the photographs release.

After the requests, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded to CBS News on April 19th, 2017 and their request by stating "We don't plan to release the picture at this time." A photographer for the White House confirmed that the photos of the event do exist, but that they won't be seen unless released by the White House.

President Trump has often made a spectacle of of his signings. The same day he signed HJ Resolution 40, the president also signed a bill rolling back an Obama-era rule on the Waters of the United States. The event was attended by several cabinet officials inside the Roosevelt Room.

The same day of the signing the NRA released a statement noting that "Today marks a new era for law-abiding gun owners, as we have now have a president who respects and supports our right to keep and bear arms."

After the mass shooting that took place at a high school in Parkland, Florida, CBS News once again made a request for access to the photos of the February signing of HJ Resolution 40, but received no response.
