Earlier today, President Trump tweeted out an attack against his own Justice Department that's headed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The president went after Sessions over the ongoing investigation over alleged surveillance abuses. Trump, writing in all caps, called the action of the Justice Department "DISGRACEFUL!"
President Trump seems to, yet again, be unhappy with Jeff Sessions after the Attorney General asked the current inspector general to look into the FISA abuse allegations. The president noted that the process "will take forever" and wondered why "an Obama guy" was handling things.
In a released statement, Jeff Sessions struck back against the president's comments stating that, "As long as I am the attorney general, I will continue to discharge my duties with integrity and honor, and this department will continue to do its work in a fair and impartial manner according to the law and Constitution."
Trump's main issue seems to be focused on inspector general Michael E. Horowitz. Horowitz is a longtime official of the department that has served under administrations from both parties. As per Justice Department policy, the FISA investigation would fall onto Horowitz as his job role states that he is tasked to "investigate alleged violations of criminal and civil laws by DOJ employee."
