The Washington Post has acquired audio from a fundraising speech in which President Trump admits to simply making information up.

The audio in question is in regards to his conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in which he stated that the United States has a trade deficit Canada.

The president is quoted as saying he had “no idea” if that was actually the case. Looking at the data, there is no trade deficit with Canada.

“I said, ‘Wrong, Justin, you do.’ I didn’t even know,” Trump stated in the audio recording. “I had no idea. I just said, ‘You’re wrong.’ You know why? Because we’re so stupid.”

Trump has been talking about the bad trade deals the United States has with other countries, so it's strange the the president would make up numbers on a position that he's made the cornerstone of his political career.

After the audio of Trump's speech surfaced, the president took to Twitter reiterating the false claim that “We do have a Trade Deficit with Canada, as we do with almost all countries (some of them massive).”

According to the Commerce Department, the United States actually has a trade surplus of $600 million in goods and services

The former ambassador to Canada, Bruce A. Heyman, took issue with the president noting that Trump is “Creating a crisis where none existed before is no way to run our country.”

He followed up by saying "Canada is our best friend and don’t ever forget it! We should never put the relationship at risk.”
