Attorney General Jeff Sessions has rejected requests from GOP lawmakers to put into place a new special counsel.
Lawmakers made the request to look into allegations that those in the Justice Department abused their power in the surveilling a former Trump official.
In a letter to lawmakers, Mr. Sessions noted that a Justice Department inquiry includes a look at their concerns, negating the need for a special counsel.
John Huber, a top federal prosecutor in Utah, is the lawyer leading the investigation into the allegations brought for by GOP lawmakers.
Bob Goodlatte and Trey Gowdy responded to the letter by stating: "While we continue to believe that the appointment of a second special counsel is necessary, this is a step in the right direction."
Mr. Sessions tried to reassure those with concerns by writing: "I am confident that Mr. Huber's review will include a full, complete and objective evaluation of these matters in a manner that is consistent with the law and facts."
