Paul Ryan Will Not Seek Re-Election

WASHINGTON - House Speaker Paul Ryan has announced that he will not seek re-election for another term.

Mr. Ryan cited his children as being the main factor in not seeking another term. Speaking to reporters Mr. Ryan stated "My kids aren't getting any younger and if I stay, they'll only know me as a weekend dad."

The Republican controlled Congress has done very little in terms of legislation outside of promised tax cuts under his watch going into the 2018 midterm elections.

Among other stinging failures were the GOP's inability to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and seeing the deficit increase dramatically.

Ryan isn't the only Republican announcing retirement or not seeking re-election. Thirty-nine Republicans are not running again in 2018 compared to the eighteen Democrats.

President Trump tweeted out praise for Mr. Ryan saying "Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question."
