Worst: Ice Cream Sandwich

This cookie packs a huge sugar punch, and 500 calories of saturated fat.

2

Best: Corn on the Cob

Corn on the cob (without excess butter and salt) is an excellent, low calorie high fiber food. Try grilling it and adding it to homemade salsa. Just lay off the butter as much as possible.

3

Worst: Funnel Cake

Deep fried flour, butter, and sugar. Sounds like a good time (once or twice a year :). This might go over well at an amusement park once a year, but keep it off the kitchen table.

4

Best: Watermelon

Watermelon is over 90 percent water, and a great way to re-hydrate after a long day in the sun. And at less than 50 calories a cup, you can eat it all day.

5

Worst: Corn Dogs

I know I'm making you upset. Everybody loves corn dogs (I myself love them) but, again, lots of fat, and too much sodium.

6

Best: Fruit Salad

Kiwi, strawberry, melon, grape, raspberry, blueberry... what's not to love about a fruit salad. It makes for a great low-calorie side or snack for any Summer afternoon picnic.

7

Worst: Ribs

I'm doing my best to kill your BBQ game. I'm not saying don't eat ribs, but maybe limit the portion to a quarter rack, and consider using spices and low-salt seasonings instead of barbecue sauce.

8

Best: Grilled Chicken

Here's your alternative to ribs and red meat. Grilled chicken is low in calories and high in protein. We suggest trying chicken kabobs: http://www.cookingclassy.com/2012/08/grilled-chicken-teriyaki-kebobs-and-a-great-find/

9

Worst: Sports Drinks

Sugar and empty calories. Stick to water, nothing hydrates better. Add watermelon and cucumber for taste if your kids complain about water.

10

Best: Avocado

Avocados are an excellent source of monounsaturated fat and are healthy for the heart and overall health. Try one of these recipes: http://greatist.com/health/39-deliciously-unexpected-healthy-avocado-recipes
