King Arthur Pendragon

King Arthur Pendragon

You are Arthur Pendragon. The famous Once and Future King, Arthur led Britain for forty years before being betrayed by his illegitimate son, Mordred, and Lancelot, his best knight and best friend.

To save his life, the Lady of the Lake took him to her Citadel at Avalon, and kept him there in state until such time as he was needed.

Tragic and heroic, Arthur is willing to put aside his own desires for the good of his land and his people. A great leader, he is always concerned for the safety of those who stand with him. Unquestionably brave, Arthur is also clever, able to step back and take view of the bigger picture. He does not act for his own grandeur, which makes him truly great.

He is wounded, and less trusting than he once was, but down deep within him is the same boy who drew the sword from the stone and set one of the greatest tales of our world into motion.

Merlin

Merlin

You are Merlin, the wise sage and guide to Arthur, and, arguably, the driving force behind his kingship and the ascension of the Round Table.

Merlin was advisor to Uther Pendragon, and when Arthur was born, he took over the role of Arthur's protector. He saw the young man to kingship, and stayed with him until Merlin fell in love with Nimue. She led him astray and locked him in an ancient oak in an attempt to steal his magic.

The Lady has set Merlin free to help her wake Arthur and retrieve one of Arthur's most loyal knights from Purgatory.

When the heroes leave Avalon to face Morgana and her horde, Merlin accompanies Arthur once again.

Merlin is a vast well of knowledge, famous as a teacher, but also skilled as a warrior when need calls for it. He is known for periodic bouts of madness when he can hear the voices of the powers beyond this world. Merlin dances on the edge of light and dark, doing what is necessary to achieve what needs to be done. Because of this, many doubt him, but those few who know him well trust him deeply.

Even if they don't like the immediate results of his magic..

Guarded and mysterious, Merlin usually guides his students to reasoning out problems on their own, facing their fears and demons, and tolerating them when they test his patience.

In his heart, he is still Arthur's guardian, and will do whatever it takes to see Arthur's faith restored, and Avalon, Britain, and the Otherworld saved.

Gwinlain/Gawain

Gwinlain/Gawain

In life, Gawain was Arthur's nephew, and one of his most loyal knights, known as Arthur's Lion. Loyal to the point that as he died, he swore his soul would forego eternal rest in the halls of his fathers, and wait until Arthur had need of him again.

What he didn't expect was to wait out that time in Limbo (Purgatory), and he certainly did not expect to be summoned back by Merlin, and changed into a new living form, the shieldmaid, Gwinlain.

Merlin's magic keeps the knight in the form of Gwinlain when they are outside the safe harbor of Avalon, though he is able to return to his old self in Avalon, and when High Magic deems it necessary.

So Gwinlain is re-learning lessons Gawain once knew, adapting to a very different form, and a different set of challenges that go with it.

He is loyal to a fault and is willing to give his life for Arthur and Avalon again. He doesn't always get things right, though he means well, and is followed by deep regrets from his past, and responsibilities to the people of his home kingdom of Orkney. He's not a tactician by any stretch of the imagination, but tends to be direct and action-oriented, and he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He's also famous for being an animal person, protecting his horses and dogs with near-deadly ferocity.

He blames himself for Arthur's fall because he held a grudge against Lancelot and he could not see past it.

The Lady of the Lake

The Lady of the Lake

You are the Lady of the Lake.

Queen of Avalon, the Lady of the Lake is both guardian and goddess of that realm.

Long ago, she was courted by Gwyn ap Nudd, then Prince of the Underworld. She refused his advances, turning away his gifts. He was of darkness, and she of light, and she could not fathom becoming queen of the dead, when life meant so much to her.

A war began in small ways at first, until the Lady chose Arthur to be Excalibur's wielder. In giving that gift, she proclaimed him King of Avalon, so that he would rule beside her when the time came.

Gwyn was outraged, and chose Morgana as his pawn to get back at the Lady.

She is courageous and strong, though beautiful and quiet, she has the heart and power of a true and generous ruler, willing to sacrifice everything to save those in her care.

Fate determined long ago that she would love Arthur, and have his love in return, in spite of the treachery he suffered in his time as King of Britain.

Scathach

Scathach

Scathach is a Celtic warrior goddess, famous for training great heroes. She serves as Avalon's general, answering directly to the Lady of the Lake. Her forces--her hand-chosen warriors--are the final line of defense between Avalon and the relentless advance of Morgana and her undead hordes.

Scathach has never backed down from a fight. Perhaps her greatest ambition is for a glorious death in battle, fighting for Avalon. She is fierce and indomitable, assured of herself and her men, an unrelenting opponent.

She, too, is a great leader, able to assure herself and those under her command in even the most dire of circumstances. And even she must face her greatest demons in order to help Arthur save Avalon.

Morgana

Morgana

You are Morgana. She was known in Arthur's reign as his antagonistic half-sister, jealous of his throne, vying for his crown.

Because of this jealousy, she spun a plot to create Modred, Arthur's illegitimate son and his eventual downfall. But this was not the end of the story as she had hoped. The Lady of the Lake intervened and took Arthur to safety.

Morgana allied with Gwyn ap Nudd and became his consort. This gave her immortality, and multiplied her powers so that she was able to subdue the mortal realm in the years following Arthur's fall.

With the power of the Underworld at her back, she has set her sights on Avalon and the Otherworld, hell bent on becoming empress of every realm she can touch.

It is easy to see her as purely evil, but as Merlin cautions Gawain, To her, they are the villains. She was stripped of her birthright, and robbed of any chance at power. Because of this, she is willing to defy everyone, gods included, to give herself the power that she feels was stolen from her.

She is cruel and calculating, carefully placing her spells and her forces to drive willing souls to her ranks, becoming to those who need help, a most generous empress, even though she caused the eternal winter that has led to famine in the lands.

She's waiting, biding her time to play her final hand.

The Black Knight

The Black Knight

You are the Black Knight.

No one knows who he is. Morgana created him from pure, soulless evil--because only a creature without a soul could steal the Blue Rose from Avalon.

He is obedient only to Morgana, and is her puppet and commander of her forces. He loves cruelty for the sake of itself, and delights in causing terror to all living things. On the flip side of the coin, he is a very, very sore loser.

Gwinlain has heard his evil laugh echoing over Morgana's camp in the dead of night, and there is something familiar in the sinister sound.

Gwyn ap Nudd

Gwyn ap Nudd

You are Gwyn ap Nudd. The Lord of the Underworld is an obsessive game master. He began his alliance with Morgana as a way to get back at the Lady of the Lake for rejecting him.

But he's smart enough to see that the game may be changing against him, so he's pooling all of his resources to gain the upper hand again, and cut the head off of the serpent before she gets to him. The problem is, for now, he needs her to secure his power, or he will fade.

Another calculating figure, he is not in love with torture, thought he has a dark bent. He is, at heart, a fair ruler, and treats his eerie subjects well enough to have their loyalty, especially against Morgana, in soon-to-be queen.

Crafty and manipulative, there is no end to the ways he can stack the deck in his favor.
