Teenage girl fashion
Teenage girls back then didn't have the free opportunity to express themselves through fashion. They were limited to skirts, blouses, or headbands. It was the feminine look or housewife look to show that girls could take care of their husband or clean houses. Pants weren't loudly praised by parents it wasn't appropriate for teenagers to wear. It gave a sense of manly power or not lady like tradition. It was largely disliked by most parents.
Music-Rock and Roll
Parents really hated rock-roll, because it connected white people to minorities. It created a shift that wasn't accepted during the time, it even created a new dance called "swing dancing". Plus, they didn't like the loud, fast, upbeat music. It went against the traditional values their parents were use to which was the slow, classical, soft type of music. But, teens rebelled against these values because it was excitement what drew them in as well as freedom and there let out of there imprisonment.
Smoking
During the 1950's teens smoked cigarettes which went against all american traditions, it showed that teens were under the influence of bad parents. The image parents had, was mostly from their children because it shows how they were raised as well as how they were influenced by growing up. This type of image wasn't respected because it portrayed a rebellious, out of control teen.
