The Original Iron Man

After deceiving his captors as long as he could, that moment where we finally get to see the result of all of Tony Stark's work was absolutely stunning. This crude prototype was instantly applauded the moment it came on screen!

This first glimpse of Iron Man was so cool, it only served to hype up the full reveal of the Mark 2 later in the film. Not only that but the sweet action it got to deal upon those who imprisoned Tony felt so righteous and justified, we all just couldn't help but cheer on!

2

Cap's First Chase

Right after we see that the serum worked and Steve Rogers is all buff; a Hydra agent kills the Doctor, and steals one of his vials containing the serum. What ensues? Absolute awesomeness.

We basically get to see the character of Steve Rogers react to what he's doing as we react to it ourselves! Which is just so much fun. As he easily runs as fast as cars, jumps over fences, and dives into the harbor to break open a futuristic Hydra submarine; you can see the surprise in just how different he is now. Something we are sharing in with him. This is a fantastic example of getting the audience feeling the same way as the character in a move. That's just good filmmaking.

3

Thor Becomes Worthy

For so much of the movie, Thor just doesn't have his powers. And we get used to it. So much so, that by the time the Asgardian Destroyer smacks him across a town for standing up for said town, we think it could actually be all over from him.

But WAIT! No way. Now he's worthy! Mjolnir instantly flies towards its master, ready to destroy the Destroyer and save the town. That moment where the lightening strikes Thor and he's suddenly back in his Asgard garb is simply one of the most gratifying Super Saiyan moments in all of super hero movie history!

4

Iron Man Army

All of the Iron Man movies are pretty solid installments that both introduce concepts and characters as well as take ones introduced in the previous movies further, which is exactly what a sequel should do.

Case in point is the Iron Man Army, seen saving the day at the climax of Iron Man 3. Seeing all of those Iron Man drones sweep in, controlled by Jarvis, was a beautiful sight to behold. Tony Stark even waited to activate the Army until the most opportune moment, hiding it even from us viewers, made the Iron Man Army reveal that much more satisfying.

5

Phoenix of the Apocalypse

The final battle of X-Men: Apocalypse may have started with a spark, but it sure ended with a bang. Perhaps even a prophetic bang.

That moment when Jean Grey finally lets the Phoenix out against Apocalypse might have been one of the coolest scenes in all of cinema. One could barely make out the faint outline of the fiery Phoenix as Apocalypse was completely destroyed. This was perhaps the most iconic moment of the entire film, which may also give us a taste of what might be in store for us the next time the X-Men grace the silver screen.

6

Captain America Awakens

The finale of Captain America: The First Avenger shows us Steve Rogers running into Times Square in the Present Day, after being frozen in ice for more than seven decades. This is one of the coolest moments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because it was one of the very first pieces we got of an Avengers call to arms.

In a movie that constantly makes us go through what Steve is living and feeling, the sheer surprise and terror of what we see is so entrancing, that it makes our own world seems so strange and odd, after spending more than two hours in the 1940's. Breaking the frame of a period piece at the very end of the film allows Marvel to help build the massively successful universe that it has. And it was perfectly executed scenes like this that made it possible.

7

Mystique Backs Down

X-Men: Days of Future Past has been hailed as perhaps the best X-Men movie ever made. Yes, better than X2. And guess what, they're right. Here's why:

The movie climaxes with Jennifer Lawrence's character, Mystique, gazing at the opportunity she's been chasing for the entire film: A chance to kill Bolivar Trask. But she finally decides to spare him, saving the future itself from the horrors of the Sentinels (which were in fact horrifying). Days of Future Past is able to meld together the first X-Men series and its new incarnation in a beautiful combination of creativity and good film-making, which makes the climax all the more, well, climactic!

8

Thor Battles Malekith in London

The climax of Thor: The Dark World was far superior to its predecessor. Not for just the fact that origin stories seem as cliche as ever, but because everything about the film was just better. Let's dive in:

There's a lot happening in the final battle of the Thor sequel. Malekith has absorbed the Aether and is battling Thor in multiple worlds at the same time due to the convergence. On top of this, on Earth, Darcy and Dr. Selvig are using post-like devices to help close off the portals while Thor and Malekith do battle. What in the first film was a story of origins and self-discovery; Thor: The Dark World actually presents Thor with a challenge he cannot handle himself, which is what makes this film so prolific, especially when compared to the first Thor film.

9

Magneto Stops The Missiles

By far, one of the coolest moments of any Marvel movie occurred in X-Men: First Class. It's the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and who gets in the middle of it? The X-Men.

Both the USA and USSR fire on the Mutants with devastating force. And, we all want to see them make contact, or at least expect Professor X to mentally stop them, or get inside the heads of commanders and tell them stop firing. But, no. We get something better. Instead, Magneto stops every single missile, and turns them all around, back onto the ships that fired them. And as he is about to release their own firearms back at them, Charles begs him to stop, that they're just following orders, and Magneto responds: "I've been at the mercy of men following orders...Never again." In this one moment, we understand Magneto wholly; in fact, many of us are on his side! It's one of the coolest action moments in the film, on top of being a moment of ultimate character realization. Fantastic.

10

Loki vs. Hulk

Now, the first Avengers movie was a long-time coming. There was so much build-up by the time it came out, it had to be perfect. And it was.

Probably one of the most humorous scenes in the movie came was when Loki comes face to face with the Hulk. Loki does what he does, his posturing and all that. The Hulk answers him by picking him up by his foot and repeatedly bashing him into the floor of Stark Tower, causing Loki to emit a high-pitched "EEEEEEE" whine while Hulk walks away saying, "Puny God." This was one of those brilliant Joss Whedon moments that successfully fuses action, comedy, and story. Why story? Because this also indirectly helps to set up Thor: Ragnarok, which the Hulk is a part of, and comes out next year.

11

Ant Man vs. Yellowjacket

The final battle in the Ant-Man movie made most of us squeal with joy. All of our comic book and action figure battles we imagined as kids suddenly came to life on the big screen.

Ant-Man tracks Yellowjacket to his daughter's room, where they then shrink down and proceed to do battle...amidst the toys. The direction and cinematography take advantage of this hilarity by constantly switching scope from the hero's perspective to his daughter's perspective. The most iconic part of this amazing battle is when a gigantic Thomas the Tank Engine is barreling towards Yellowjacket and just as it's about to hit, the camera zooms out to show the toy train crash and fall of the tracks. Amazing.

12

First Class Banter

One of the best aspects of X-Men: First Class was the fantastic banter that occurred between James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. In fact, this is one of the reasons the entire film worked at all!

This movie was a big risk for Marvel, as it completely reboots the X-Men franchise. Met with skepticism, as all reboots tend to be, First Class quickly proved itself different, due in no small part to the chemistry and banter that occurs between the actors themselves. It lends itself to contribute to a tone that is quite different from the other X-Men films, expertly adding in a sense of humor that the originals lacked, or at the very most, didn't pull off nearly as well.

13

The Black Panther Chase

Captain America: Civil War is hailed as one of the best Marvel movies ever made. It achieves a character balance that very very few films can match, except perhaps other Marvel flicks.

One of the all-time most rewarding scenes of the film is the amazing chase scene that occurs between The Winter Soldier and The Black Panther. The former is being chased by the latter after his mind was jumbled back into "Winter Soldier Mode" and killed Black Panther's pops. This gives him and his all-vibranium suit a good reason to hate Bucky Barnes. Best part is, the context of this chase could not be more important, as Cap and Iron Man struggle to contain the collateral damage as well as justify their own stances. It marks a highlight of the film, all while maintaining the perspective of the story itself. That's some classy filmmaking right there.

14

Ultron is Born

While there are many who feel that Avengers: Age of Ultron just didn't live up to the original film, this second installment of the Avengers certainly had its share of awesome moments.

Probably the biggest highlight of the film was the Ultron reveal. First of all, the birth of Ultron was absolutely incredible. A Stark machination created to protect the world from the Avengers, and even a mechanism which might allow them to retire. But Ultron takes that to an extreme. It was the anthropomorphism, or human-like characteristics of Ultron that made him such a great character. How he is constantly slipping up his words, searching for the ones he is looking for, or when he just straight up makes a pun. James Spader's vocal inflections and delivery made Ultron an incredibly human character; without which, he would've just been another static villain without any ethos, or spirit of character, whatsoever.

15

Days of Past Quicksilver

Believe it or not, Marvel actually gives us two separate incarnations of Quicksilver. One in Age of Ultron, and another in Days of Future Past. But, let's be real: We all love the DOFP version way more.

In Days of Future Past, Quicksilver is tasked with breaking Magneto out of the Pentagon with Charles Xavier and Wolverine. The moment of pivotal awesomeness occurs when the three of them are about to be shot by a group of guards, and we get to see Quicksilver do his thing while listening to some sweet tunes. The version of the character as a kid in the early 70s who digs music is a much more fun and playful version of the character than in Age of Ultron, who isn't a mutant at all; he was given powers through experimentation. All in all, they're both cool, but we like X-Men's Quicksilver better. (It's all about the one-liners).

16

Ronin Destroyed

There are many fans who believe that Guardians of the Galaxy is just one of those perfect films that comes along every so often. Turns out, Marvel is a machine when it comes to producing perfect films.

One of the more humorous additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians introduces us to the wider Marvel universe, including characters like the Collector, more Thanos awesomeness, and the concept of the Infinity Stones. All of this is essentially setting up the awesomeness-to-come in Avengers: Infinity War, where we assume Thanos will obtain all of the Infinity Stones and try to take over the universe. And the only reason this gets us so excited is because of Ronin–the Kree who sought to control the Power Stone. We had heard about the stones before, but seeing what the Power Stone did to Ronin made us all sit on the edge of our seats with anticipation for more Infinity Stones, let alone the Infinity Gauntlet they teased us with!

17

Avengers Afterparty

The end of the first act of Avengers: Age of Ultron has us doing something we never thought we would do, but absolutely always wanted: Partying with the Avengers.

After taking care of the remaining Hydra bases, the Avengers decide to let loose and celebrate their victory. And while we know the big bad of the film is just around the corner, it's just so awesome to see these larger-than-life characters do something we all like to do every now and then: Party. Perhaps the best part of the entire sequence is seeing all of the other Avengers attempt to pick up Thor's hammer, Mjolnir. Tony Stark even takes out a glove from his Iron Man suit and uses rocket propulsion to help, but to no avail. This moment is even added to later in the film when Vision is "worthy" and hands Mjolnir to Thor, to everyone's surprise. The laughs continue as Cap and Iron Man come up with reasons why it "doesn't count." It's this kind of humor mixed with Class A action that helps Marvel pump out hit after hit.

18

"I Am Groot"

Guardians of the Galaxy has been touted as being a hallmark film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while there are many iconic moments that stand out, many fans continue to love one: "I am Groot."

There are multiple parts of the film that feature this awesome line from the living tree. You'd think by the end of the film, we'd be sick of it; but, no, we love it every time. Groot totally steals the show every time he opens his mouth. That's because of the sheer awesomeness of acting and delivery from all the actors. Context is everything. Groot's character is shown to us only through his actions, and the subtle differences in which he says "I am Groot." These subtle changes actually makes the funny parts even funnier!

19

The Spiderman Reveal

Coming into the Top Three, we have the full Spiderman reveal from Captain America: Civil War. While we all knew it was coming due to the trailer, it didn't make it any less exciting when we finally saw the web-slinger in action.

That airport battle had so much awesomeness going on, it's hard to pin down just one character and bask in their glory. But if you had to, it would be Spiderman. The entire mood of the character was so spot on. It was perhaps the single shortest and most true-to-form portrayal of the character in any screen adaption we've ever seen. Going head to head with all the Marvel heavy hitters, all while being gushing about getting to meet them. The best part: he just didn't shut up, which just made him feel so real as a character. Having all of that happen during this epic battle between the two Avenger sides was just a beauty to watch.

20

Tony Stark

Here we are at Number 2. Who takes the cake? It's Tony Stark. All of him. There are so many incredible Stark moments, that's impossible to pick just one, so we picked all of them!

Let's be real for a second. If it were not for Tony Stark, specifically, Robert Downey, Jr.'s brilliant portrayal of the character, we might not have had a Marvel Universe to speak of. At least not in the same way. The first Iron Man film was the big test and it paid off massively. Without Downey's approach to the character, there is a good chance we wouldn't have gotten even as far as The Avengers. It was his hilarious nihilism that brought the perfect antithesis to Thor and Cap's noble strength. Tony is what grounded the entire MCU and he still continues to do so. In fact, if you look at the other Phase 1 films, they just don't compare! Thor and The Incredible Hulk just couldn't hold a candle to either of the Iron Man movies, with Captain America being the only film to be able to match it. So basically, Tony Stark rules the MCU, and for good reason.

21

The Battle of New York

Topping off our list at number one is The Battle of New York from the first Avenger's movie. This finale brought all of the pieces together of not just the movie itself, but represented a culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe as it existed.

The Phase One finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is largely regarded as one of the best super hero films of all time. For the first time, filmmakers successfully put together a cinematic universe that culminated in coherent plots, character development, and incredible action that somehow topped the rest of the Phase One movies, which is really saying something. Getting to finally see all the Avengers working in tandem with each other was a wonderful sight to see. In fact, Bruce Banner/The Hulk's entrance to the battle alone makes the entire sequence noteworthy, without mentioning all of the other incredible moments that brought both laughter and awe to audiences. This movie set up Phase Two, and allowed Marvel to continue and even enhance the sheer quality of films that they are including in the MCU. For that reason, it sits at number one; because, it gave us everything we wanted to see and more.
