Top 6 "I Am Legend" Sources: Book vs. Movie

The list is relative and really only useful for my specific project in ENG 301. I am doing a digital project where I compare "I am Legend," the novel by Richard Matheson, to the 2007 movie version starring Will Smith. I have ranked them from most useful to least. Here we go!

I had to go with a little snarky gif for this one because this examination of the book and movie was published by a person who just goes by "Snarky." The website examines both the book and the movie in their simplest version and comes to the conclusion that they are on equal, mediocre footing in the race for first prize. I use this website as sort of a model. Although, unlike Snarky, I pick a winner. I think you can guess which one I chose.

This is a mediocre review of the movie version of "I am Legend" by Roger Ebert. Ebert spends the entire review questioning the logic behind all of the main character, Robert Neville's decisions and wondering if they make any real sense at all. In the end he gives the movie a stelar three out of five stars. Not a shining moment for Will Smith if you ask me.

This scholarly article by Justin Roberts examines the history of Richard Matheson's story. The story has been told in several different ways from the 1964 movie version called "The Last Man On Earth" to "The Simpsons: Homega Man" this story has had a major influence on both the vampire genre and the culture at large. To be honest this is probably why we as a society has been cursed with "Twilight". We can blame Richard Matheson for "50 Shades" too.

This is a scholarly article published by Robert Yeates is the basis of my argument. That being that the book is better than the movie. The book version was highly influenced by the 1950s culture. Everyone was afraid of their own neighbor. They were also afraid of what women were capable of after WW2. Yeates really sticks it to the man, especially with his section on "Masculinity in Crisis" which will really help for my website.

This is the 2007 version of I am Legend Starring Will Smith. This is a top source of mine because it is what I am comparing the book to. The movie version is very different from the book with a larger cast of characters. The things that the movie changes from the book are very important for my argument.

This source is the most useful because it is literally the book. I'm not relying too heavily on my other sources because I feel that a close reading of the novel will get me most of the information that I want to convey. Nothing is concrete really, anyway, unless its coming form Matheson himself.
