BILL WARD

When I was around ten years old I could play every Black Sabbath song exactly as Bill played them note for note.
DAVE LOMBARDO

Back in the original days of Metal two drummers were the influence for everything to come with Metal drumming. Dave was one of them.
BILL ANDREWS

Bill Andrews was the other! .
MIKE PORTNOY

While I got into Mike's drumming later in life, he is the baddest ass drummer out there. I'm not into Dream Theater at all, but his work with Liquid Tension Experiment is untouchable. And this song "Acid Reign" is the greatest song ever written by four of the most incredible musicians ever to unite.
JOHN TABARES

John from Hirax was Buddy Rich playing Hardcore.
GENE HOGLAN

Gene is one of the nicest guys I ever met and his drumming is legendary in Dark Angel. His work in Death was the first fusion type drumming in Metal. The catalyst to the entire Fusion-Metal scene going on.
PHILTHY "PHIL" TAYLOR

Phil taught me to throw fills in constantly other than just keeping up the beat.
ANTON FIG

Mostly known for being part of Paul Schaffer's band on the David Letterman Show, Anton played with some of the greats like Link Wray. I wish his drum solo on this album was on YouTube. Talk about a kickass drummer!!
VINNIE APPICE

I always loved the way Vinnie played. His drumming is off kilter and he truly has his own style.
JOHN BONHAM

Although I can barely stomach Led Zeppelin because of Robert Plant's whiny voice, I'd be a liar to say John Bonham didn't influence me with the way he played. I will say though his drum solo in "Moby Dick" sucks and is quite sad!
KIM RUZZ

I was sixteen years old when the first Mercyful Fate ep came out and I taped this song off college radio and played drums to it with no headphones and not even being able to hear what I was playing to. But I played it perfect as every time there was a stop I was dead on. At the time it was the fastest thing I ever played to.
D.H. Peligro

I haven't included a lot of Punk drummers on this list. But that will be for a different post. I haven't included Carmine Appice or Cozy Powell either. Both of which were huge influences. But I'm trying to make this short. But Peligro really kicked my ass and was my main inspiration for going even further with out of control drumming.
