1950s Ideal

Mens were the suppliers for the family which means support the family by making money. The husband expected to come home with a cooked meal on the table. The man is expected to be the strong one of the relationship.

Teenage boys were taught to go into the service and then find a jobs to support a family. Girls were taught to stay homes and take care of the household. When boys and girls stated to get there education and attend college they started to show a rebellious side of themselves.

the roles of the wife was stayed home and be a good caring wife, and taking caring there man. This mean to cook for the husband, take care of the husband, and respect the husband and also the same with the kids.

During the 1950's you must have at least 2 kids and have to get married not matter how miserable you are with the person you got married with. In the 1950's the mom had to stay home to take care of the house and cook for the husband and kids. The dad had to support the family with supplies. Family's had to eat together during the 1950's.

African Americans couldn't live in the suburbs because they were black so that really effected there lifestyle.

African Americans face kids faced lots of problems like not going to the same school as white kids.

The way you were suppose to act happy and not show bad emotion but for woman that was hard because they could express them selves. Women wanted to have have jobs like men and be treated equally.

During the 1950s society conformity was common, Protest, turbulence, and disillusionment. People moved to suburbs because of the "baby boom" that started in the 1940s. Also from 150 million Americans in 1950 to over 178 million in 1960. School districts raced to build schools for the baby-boom students who were heading their way.

When teens had some free time the when out to the movies, on dates, and most of all danced. Teens back the loved to dance to Rock n Roll and what influence them was Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and Buddy Holly.

Men had the most fun in the family because they can play sports, go hang with friends, watch t.v and go to movies. the only thing the wife can do is listen to music and watch T.V. Also both men and women listen to Duwop.
