What did teenagers in the 1950s do to rebel? Lets find out...
Rock and Roll
Rock and Roll was the main teenage rebellion of the 1950s. It was a new type of music that parents didn't like or approve of. This disapproval surrounding it provided teenagers with a new rebellion as many of them loved Rock and Roll. Elvis was a great example of this new era and he and a few other singers such as Little Richard had teenagers listening to him by the millions.
Dancing
Along with Rock and Roll came dancing. Dancing had changed from a very formal affair (formal dancing still existed) to a less formal night club activity. Rock and Roll spearheaded the rebellion of dancing as parents were ok with dancing but not ok with sexually provocative dancing which was associated with Rock and Roll. Teenagers would do these dances and dance to rock music with the disapproval of their parents.
Style
There were a few ways that teenagers could rebel from their parents with their appearance. Girls as shown in the picture could wear tight clothing and to wear excessive amounts of makeup. Guys would have the greaser look with slicked back hair. These rebelled against dress codes of schools which parents thought would end teenage rebellion.
