How did they make fried chicken in the 18th Century? It may not be a question you've asked yourself, but I bet your wondering now...

I am...I also want fried chicken.

2

Well Nathan Bailey's "Dictionarium Domesticum" has the answer!

Seriously. Are you ready for this?

3

You need salt, pepper and bay leaves..

Bonus points for an old timey bowl!

4

Marinate the chicken for three hours in lemon juice, vinegar, green onions and shallots

This is beginning to look finger licken good!

5

For the batter you need eggs, flour, white wine, and salt. You have to mix it until it's smooth like pancake batter..

Use the birch twigs you have lying around the kitchen!

6

Now, go get your cauldron and fill it with boiling hot fat!

Be careful here...

7

Dip that chicken in that batter...

Oh good lord this is beginning to look delicious..

8

Dip it and bam!

That is some juicy lookin fried chicken..

9

You've got to let it rest, so that the excess oil drains..

I'll let that chicken rest....in my mouth...

10

Top with some garnish, stick on an old-timey plate and ENJOY!

oh man oh man oh man
