This super functional floating shelf can store books, candles, even small plants. Plus it's super easy to make! Just follow this step by step:

First you'll need: Scissors, yarn and a round wooden plate (you can get from hardware stores)

Cut 24 pieces of yarn to 3 1/2 yds. each.

Fold them in half and tie a knot at the halfway point with another piece of yarn. This point will be where the shelf hangs from.

Divide yarn into four equal sections (each section will be 12 strings).

Divide each part into two sections of 6 and twist them together.

Hang your ropes on a hook in a high area. Tie a knot 4 inches below the top where you tied your center knot.

Tie a knot at the bottom and leave any excess to dangle, like a tassle! This is where your shelf will balance.

Balance your wooden plate onto your center knot. Arrange your 4 twisted ropes evenly to provide extra support for the wooden plate.

And there you have, a chic, functional floating shelf!
