Online and Off-Campus: Where's the Line?

Recently, the line between whether students can be punished for things they post on social media off campus regarding schools has been blurred.
In 2011, student Avery Doninger made public posts calling school officials "douchebags" for cancelling an event called Jamfest. Due to this message, the school has barred her from re-election in student office and prohibited other students from wearing "TEAM AVERY" shirts. Doninger has stated that these actions have violated her first amendment rights.
