There is a huge stigma surrounding the idea of seeing a therapist or psychologist.

2

However, people who see therapists are not weak, pathetic or crazy.

3

In fact, it takes a great deal of strength to openly seek help from a professional.

4

Just because we see a psychologist does not mean we have a mental disorder.

5

Nor does it mean that we're on medication or will be put on medication in the future.

6

Our therapist does not tell us what to do or how to think. We are in charge of our actions and thoughts.

7

However, therapists do help us learn how to tackle life's challenges in an effective and healthy way.

8

You shouldn't feel sorry for us because we are in therapy.

9

Therapy sessions don't just involve sitting on a couch and talking about your mother.

10

Although the process can take time, we're not going to be in therapy forever.

11

Maintaining mental health is just as important as staying physically healthy.

12

Not all types of therapy or therapists work for everyone.

13

That's why finding the right fit is crucial. However, sometimes it can take time.

14

Therapists aren't just for wealthy people with "first world problems".

15

People seek therapy for many different reasons.

16

Therapists do not have all the answers and we're aware of that.

17

The experience of seeking professional help is all about what you make of it.

18

It's no one's business what we talk about with our therapist, counselor or psychologist.

19

There is absolutely nothing wrong with seeing a therapist or psychologist and everyone is entitled to see one if they choose.

20

Therapy is helpful for some and not for others.

21

But at the end of the day, seeing a therapist is nothing to be ashamed of!
