Ballet

Ballet

You would love it in ballet. You are classy and you appreciate tradition. You are naturally graceful and poised. You are not afraid to do hard work. You value the firm structure of a ballet class balanced with the fun of great leaps and turns and the benefits of improved flexibility, increased focus, and earning the respect that all ballerinas get and deserve. Throw on a leotard and some tights and stand next to the barre! You can find when Symphony Dance offers ballet classes here: http://www.symphonydance.com/class_listings (You may also be interested in Burn at the Barre-a fitness class that takes elements of ballet to help participants work on basics of technique and form while burning calories and getting that dancer body)

Tap

Tap

You should be tap dancing. You have an internal rhythm and you are musically inclined. Like most tap dancers you have many talents and the best way to showcase your zeal for performance, your understanding of music theory, and your flair for footwork all in one is through tap dancing. You have a little bit of that classic style like Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell, and Gene Kelley and you have a relaxed confidence about you that says I can do something crazy hard with my feet but my upper body says "this is nothing" like Savion Glover. Find out when Symphony Dance is offering Tap Dance Class here: http://www.symphonydance.com/class_listings (new classes are forming at student request too) PS you might also find yourself a good fit in a combination class that has a little tap mixed with a little ballet.

Jazz

Jazz

You're made for Jazz. You are into history and style and you stay up to date on current trends in pop culture, but never forget the elements you love from previous times. In Jazz class you'll explore African dance (the foundation of jazz) and work your way through history and you'll love how you can see how each leader in jazz influenced the style. You are creative and innovative and a trendsetter and you will fit right in doing the Charleston, the moonwalk, Fosse style, and more! (You might also like Musical Theater/Theatre Dance) To check out Symphony Dance's Jazz class offerings visit: http://www.symphonydance.com/class_listings

Hip Hop

Hip Hop

From Jazz Funk, to Breaking and Popping, to Whacking, you were made to Hip Hop dance. Hip Hop is really a style of dance that is classified as Jazz but like Hip Hop Dance style you will hide behind no one's shadow. You respect street dancers and can incorporate techniques from other dance forms too. You like that there are no costumes but dancewear that is realistic, comfy, and that can be used in your choreography. After a few lessons you'll be grooving to every song you hear-hip hop, pop, rap, and more, ready to perform in the subway for change or have a friendly battle. Your style says you are relaxed but tough and fun but competitive. Modern

Modern

You would feel grounded in a modern class. You are a naturalist, you don't want to fit in to any certain form. You do not want to be defined and you don't really like to be told what to do. Modern dancers rebel against the strict rules of ballet, the codifying of all dance forms, and look to use gravity, the floor, and emotions for inspiration in their dance movements and phrases. Modern dancers are extremely strong and work very hard, but are very in tune with who they are and use that to propel them. You like to show you can do something impressive and moving while experiencing the free feeling of no shoes and wearing whatever you want, however you want. To experience a Symphony Dance modern class check the schedule out here: http://www.symphonydance.com/class_listings or message or call us for a schedule suggestion/request.

Acro

Acro

You should be an acrobat. You are a flexible person physically and mentally. You want to do splits and leg extensions, you don't mind being upside down or on your head, and you don't have much fear. You like to take risks, you like dancing and music, and you like incorporating those elements with gymnastics and intense physical feats. You don't mind if your music is slow and lyrical, is a pop song, or is an intense house music mix. Acrobatics involves difficult feats of balance, agility and coordination and you could handle it. You wouldn't mind being a contortionist, in cirque du soleil, or just getting your aerial. You can find a list of times Symphony Dance offers Acro here: http://www.symphonydance.com/class_listings (New classes are forming by request, and solo/private lessons are available.)

Clogging

Clogging

You're a clogger at heart! You are a melting pot and epitomize the blending of cultures throughout history to make one America today. Clogging (sometimes referred to as clog dancing) started in the Appalachian mountains and incorporated the different styles of dance from the different settlers into one dance form. Clogging can be found all around the world, but is most popular in the southeastern United States. You appreciate impressive foot work that can be enjoyed to any style of music or without. You wouldn't mind dancing in a skirt, in jeans, or in a costume. You love performing and like that clogging can be competed in dance competitions or in clogging specific competitions. You also love that no matter your age you are never too young or too old to clog and wherever you find other cloggers you speak a common language and will fit in like family. Symphony Dance is lucky to be in the Northeast and still offer clogging, check out the schedule here: http://www.symphonydance.com/class_listings and let Symphony Dance know if those times don't work for you.

Zumba

Zumba

You should be workin' it in a dance fitness class like Zumba. You love Latin rhythms and finding a groove to International beats. You were made to party and a class that feels like a fun dance party is right up your alley. You want to shake your groove thing and throw out your inhibitions. You were made to salsa, belly dance, jazz dance, and hip hop, you want to work all those into a cardio workout in one class. You light up a room when you walk in and you are ready to sweat like crazy. You want to be able to follow the teacher and not have to worry about remembering and perfecting choreography, you just want to dance without judgment-but that's not to say you're not a great dancer.
