The earliest documentation of fireworks dates back to 7th century China!

Historians believe fireworks originated in China between 600 and 900 A.D. when alchemists inadvertently made gunpowder. The gun powder was put into a bamboo shoot and thrown into fire, producing a large blast and the first fireworks.

China makes about 90% of the world's fireworks!

America imported roughly 201 million pounds of fireworks in 2012, and 96 percent came from – you guessed it — China

3

Italian merchant and traveller Marco Polo is believed to have brought fireworks from China to Europe around the year 1295.

He also started a cute pool game!

4

You never wear polyester in a firework factory!

Polyester produces static electricity that could cause a firework to explode - and no one needs any of that! Workers are asked to wear cotton.

5

The factory workers place special "marbles" in patterns to ensure cool shapes!

Much easier than it seems, huh?

6

Blue is the trickiest color to create!

It is done with copper oxidizers, and the temperature of the reaction has to be spot on!

7

They're pretty, but fireworks can be poisonous to the environment!

This is something to keep in mind while enjoying yourself! All of the chemicals and metals affect nature. The environment gets the short end of the stick when we celebrate.

8

But don’t worry, chemists are developing more environmentally friendly firework recipes.

The work is aimed at making more environmentally friendly flares for military use, but it could also be applied to civilian fireworks.

9

The Walt Disney Company is the largest consumer of fireworks!

Maybe you didn't KNOW, but I'm sure you could have guessed! It's nothing like a Disney Firework show!

10

This past New Year’s Eve, Dubai set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest fireworks display.

The Guinness World Record for the largest firework display is held by the Dubai Government at Palm Jumeirah Island and The World Islands in Dubai, UAE. It took place on Dec. 31, 2013 and consisted of 479,651 fireworks.

According to the American Pyrotechnic Association, during last year’s Fourth of July celebrations, Americans lit about 175 MILLION pounds worth of fireworks!

How much is 175 million pounds? A stack of pennies weighing 175 million pounds would rise WELL out of the earth’s atmosphere, stretch far past the international space station, and extend over 10 percent of the distance to the MOON!

That's more weight more than the Statue of Liberty, it would cost more than a Powerball jackpot, and release more energy than 100,000 bolts of lightning!
