Stephen Hawking Played Himself

The legendary Stephen Hawking was a fan of the show and even appeared as himself in an episode of Star Trek the Next Generation. Star Trek: Voyager Almost Had a Male Captain

It's hard to imagine anyone other than Kate Mulgrew leading the crew of Voyager back home, but Paramount didn't even consider her in the main running during final auditions. In fact, Paramount wasn't even sure a female captain would play well on TV, probably because TV execs are always out of touch and a generation behind. So the studio auditioned male actors and saw Nigel Havers as a good fit for the captain's chair if a female lead could not be found.
