Is the Tatoo Art? / Es el tatuaje un Arte?
The origins of Tattoos are scattered in time. In ages as early as ancient Egypt, 3000 years ago, it was already a known technic, restricted only for the priests, given them this way supernatural and protection characteristics.
From those days till today Tattoo art has gone a long way, going from being a holly art to a marginal art and recently even to be a social art symbol or collector’s art.

Los orígenes del tatuaje se diluyen en el tiempo, en épocas tan tempranas como el antiguo Egipto hace 3000 años ya era una técnica conocida restringida solo a las sacerdotisas confiriéndole así características sobrenaturales y de protección.
Desde esos días y hasta la fecha el Arte del tatuaje ha recorrido un largo camino, pasando de ser arte sagrado a Arte marginal, hasta llegar en fecha reciente a ser símbolo de arte social o arte de colección

Polynesia is one of the places where tattoos reach the highest artistic levels. Embellished geometrical designs, life-long renewed covered the entire body of the dancers, assuring the respect and the hierarchy of the dancer depending on the amount of tattoos that the person could have.
The hippies are the ones that finally take the contemporary tattoo to a condition of Art. The colorfulness and design of this contra-culture is what takes the tattoo out of the marginal place where society had put it and catapults it into Art.

Desde los marineros comandados por el capitán James Cook quien trae el tatuaje a occidente este modo de expresión ha tomado diversos matices desde los mas artísticos hasta los mas extremos. El interés cada ves mas creciente en lo autóctono, en las culturas autóctonas y en las técnicas mas antiguas de tatuar ha revivido antiguas practicas ancestrales como las “escarificaciones” que son las marcas mas comunes entre las comunidades tribales, símbolo de valor y una manera de cubrir su historia en el cuerpo.
