In August of 2016, The Daily Mail ran an article questioning Melania Trump's past as a model, with the headline "Racy photos and troubling questions about his wife's past that could derail Trump." The article insinuate that Melania had also worked as a prostitute, saying that she had "provided services beyond simply modeling."
While a retraction was published as early as September, Trump sued the company for $150 million in punitive damages and has now settled with the Daily Mail for about $2.9 million along with an acceptance of their apology, which read in part:
We accept that these allegations about Mrs. Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them.
