Anyone can be a victim of sexual assault and abuse regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, income level or religion.

2

Which means that men can be victims too!

Nearly 2.78 million men in the U.S. have been victims of sexual assault or rape. (Source: http://bit.ly/Qq7fk7)

3

Asking us what we were wearing or if we were drunk places blames on us, the victim.

4

It also implies that we were somehow asking to be assaulted.

In no way were we trying to lure or seduce our attackers!

5

For the record, rape is not caused by the victim's clothing choices.

6

Or level of intoxication.

7

Or lack of physical strength.

8

RAPE IS CAUSED BY RAPISTS. PERIOD.

9

Victims are not always able to fight off attackers.

For instance, they may be drugged, incapacitated or in total shock.

10

Rape isn't about sex or attraction or seduction.

It's about control and power.

11

Even though our control and power were taken away, we are not fragile, broken or incapable of healing.

12

Yes, it still counts as rape if someone was attacked by their partner.

13

There are a number of reasons why a victim of sexual assault might not report the crime to the authorities.

In some cases, they are in total shock. Other times, they might feel like no one will believe them. If they've been drugged, they may not even remember what happened.

14

This means that only 2% of rapists will ever serve time for their crimes. The other 98% will walk free.

15

Rape jokes are not funny. Period.

16

Even if someone agreed to other sexual activities, this does not equal consent.

In no way does this imply that the attacker is entitled to have sex with them.

17

Survivors are NOT defined by what was done to us.
