Meet El Segundo's valedictorian... Kristin Villanueva!

While many other teens would have spent their earned cash on fancy items, Kristin held back and saved approximately $2,000.
Money she hoped to put towards paying for her first quarter of college.
That is... until Kristin's home was burglarized!
Not cool, guys!
Have you ever had your valuables stolen?
Have you ever had your valuables stolen?
While visiting family...
Unknown intruders burglarized her home and stole all of the tutoring money Kristin had saved for college.
Along with her tutoring money, they stole jewelry and many important family items.
But Kristin kept her chin up!
I know that sometimes life is unfair and people make the decision to steal and take what doesn’t belong to them, but despite the burglary my family and I went through, it won’t hinder our motivation to keep doing good work for our community.

Once El Segundo police officers heard of Kristin's ordeal...
They immediately ran to her aid!
El Segundo police officers would not allow theft to stand in her way of receiving a proper education.
So, the department set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising enough funds to replace the stolen cash.
In only 9 days, the fundraiser had reached $5,000!
Woo! Woo!
“It was a bummer, but I’m really happy that they were able to turn it around."
