Incredible Blue Holes Around The World

It is thought that over 10,000 years ago, geological forces were responsible for creating what is now known as the Belize Blue Hole; a nearly perfect sphere of deep blue water, measuring 300 meters across and 125 meters deep. Located not far from the city of Belize, the giant Blue Hole has become one of the most famous diving zones in central America.

Located in the Bahamas, the Dean's Blue hole is the second deepest known blue hole in the world, at the impressive depth of 202 metres. It is dramatically enclosed on three sides by natural rock and white sandy beach. Dean’s Blue Hole is named after a family name of local landowners, who live in the near-by area.

Malta's Blue Hole,sits within a circular formation of limestone rock, on the small island of Gozo in the Mediterranean Sea. The natural rock formation surrounding the hole resembles an upright tube, that has been carved out by thousands of years of wind and wave power.

The Blue holes of Palau comprise of a group four holes in the reef that enter into a cavern. The dive site in Palau is considered the second most popular dive site in Palau after Blue Corners.

The legendary Dragon hole in the South China Sea is the the deepest known on Earth at 300 metres deep. More than 20 species of fish live in the upper part of the sinkhole, which is also known as a blue hole. However, below 100 metres, it is largely oxygen-free, meaning life is unlikely to survive there.
