Paul Foster isn't the only one to have considered his outfit carefully. After the guide tweeted last week to say “as we present all new starred chefs with a chef’s jacket at the launch, it’s that time of the year when the inspectors have to guess the sizes required.”
Eager to ward off any potential embarrassment a few chefs offered their measurements...
The Dining Room in Abersoch, Wales, playfully quipped: “I’m usually a size 8-10 please. Occasionally 12 in Miss Selfridge.”
Matt Worswick of 1 Michelin starred The Latymer, added: “Don’t worry I’ll go topless if you get my jacket size wrong!”
“Again, I would need to buy my own jacket,” Damien Wawrzyniak of House of Feasts replied.
While Tommy Heaney of Heaney’s Cardiff responded: “32 double c for me please," which prompted Adam Reid of The French, Manchester, to reply: “32? That’s generous!”

The Caterer asked Paul Foster, chef patron of Salt in Stratford upon Avon, how it felt to win a Michelin star in the 2019 guide.
He said: “Last year was amazing for me as a chef and us as a business. It was a genuine surprise to me and great for Stratford-upon-Avon to have its first ever Michelin-starred restaurant. It created a massive buzz around the town. Our business was doing well but the Michelin star took it to another level. It opened us up to new customers that hadn’t heard of us and helped us become a destination restaurant. As well as a lifetime goal achieved, achieving the star has amazing value for your business”

Eyes will be on Manchester this afternoon to see if the city gains a star after years of drought. Simon Shaw, chef patron and creative director of El Gato Negro, which retained its Bib Gourmand for the fourth year on Friday, described the lack of a star in the city as a "crime", while Thom Hetherington, CEO Holden Media and Northern Restaurant and Bar, shared his thoughts for who could be in line for the accolade. Last week we asked industry insiders for their predictions. Critic Richard Vines as well as chefs Daniel Clifford and Tom Kerridge have tipped Claude Bosi at Bibendum for an illustrious third star, with Kerridge also giving a nod to Core by Clare Smyth.
Meanwhile critic Andy Hayler and Thom Hetherington, CEO of Holden Media and Northern Restaurant and Bar, suggested Mark Birchall's Moor Hall could be under consideration with Hetherington also joining Ben McCormack, editor of SquareMeal.co.uk in suggesting Simon Rogan's L'Enclume could have attracted attention.
McCormack also suggested the Greenhouse in Mayfair could be in the running for the ultimate accolade.

A brief history: In 1926 Michelin began awarding stars to highlight France’s top dining establishments. Five years later the hierarchy of one, two and three stars was introduced, with the corresponding descriptions of “worth a stop”, “worth a detour” and “worth a special journey” later added.
Restaurants were first included in the Great Britain guide in 1925 (with Ireland added in 1974), but the nation would wait more than 50 years, until 1982, to boast a three-starred restaurant, with the accolade eventually awarded to Mayfair’s Le Gavroche.
In the intervening years eight more restaurants have been awarded three stars, will anyone else join their ranks today?

The first recipient of a star in the 2020 Guide
8am, 7 October 2019
Excitment for today's announcement has been building all weekend. On Friday evening Michelin surprised watchers by revealing the first star to be awarded in the 2020 guide, which went to Alchemilla, in Nottingham.
On Sunday it promised a record haul of starts on Twitter. The guide posted: "Despite the challenges facing the restaurant industry, we will be awarding a record number of Michelin Stars tomorrow and they’re spread far and wide."
