Snowing the Lingo: What do all of those Skiing Phrases Mean?

Life on the slopes is luxurious and intoxicating: a heady mixture of cosy chalets, challenging ski runs and delicious food. Not everything Alpine is this simple, however. Skiing comes with its very own list of jargon, and if you’re a leisure skier rather than complete devotee, you may find yourself getting lost in all the lingo. Never fear, though, we’re here to help! Here are some of the cryptic terms you may encounter, and what they really mean.

Your helmet. A dramatic nickname until you consider how much damage could be done without one!

A beginner’s slope. These are usually nice and flat, making them perfect for those practice runs.

A conveyer-belt like ski-lift. These are usually found on bunny slopes.
