1

Ease into it...

Focussing on non-intimidating subjects like "How's the weather," and "What is your major," will go over better than "How many kids do you want to have," or "What's your soul desire in this life?" By keeping it simple and straightforward, you're not putting any pressure on the shy person and conversation can happen more naturally.

2

Make an effort to build trust...

When dating someone shy, you need to make sure you do things that will let them know they can trust you. If you're acting all spontaneous and unpredictable, guess what, they will not be so happy about that. It's not that you can't be spontaneous, but you need to make sure you have their back and have open communication at the same time.

3

Don't make fun of him/her for being shy

Social anxiety is real and it can be a struggle. Pointing out his/her shyness may seem like not a big deal to you, but know that when you do that, they're dying inside a thousand deaths. Just be sensitive about their shyness and avoid talking about it in public spaces or even in front of family members.

4

Ask creative and thoughtful questions.

Steer clear from serious talk and try to think of questions that would be fun for both of you to answer. Say like, what would you bing with you to a desert island? Or, If you could travel back in time and meet any historical figure, who would it be? These questions again take the pressure off and welcome in easy and fun conversation.

5

Go to the movies.

Here's something you may not know, shy people love the movies. Why? Because you don't have to talk and there's a mutual distraction the size of 8 billboards right on the wall in front of you. That means no pressure to talk, on awkward conversation moments. And even if there are, there's popcorn as an additional distract. Suggest a movie and see how your date's eyes light up.

6

Plan ahead...

Your shy date has so many worries and thoughts going on in their mind, that they don't have much space to actually plan the date. This leaves most of it to you, if you like planning dates then this situation can work out perfectly, but if you don't, just don't expect your shy date to have everything figured out. Be sure to ask your date questions like who will split the bill? and what are we going to do after dinner? So that your date won't become too overwhelmed in the moment.

7

Be a good listener.

When your date actually starts opening up, don't ruin the moment by interrupting or talking over them. Try and listen, ask follow up questions and encourage them to keep talking. The key here is to not force them to talk, they will on their own.
