The Falling Cost of Solar Power
Just two years after energy consultants in India doubted if solar power would ever reach parity with coal, an astounding thing has happened: solar is now cheaper than coal.
As a result, conventional power producers in India are being forced to re-think their projects.
Indian Prime Minister Seeks to Reduce Fossil Fuel Pollution
India is currently home to half of the world's top 30 most-polluted cities.
In fact, a recent study showed that pollution in India was contributing to 500,000 premature deaths in the country each year.
In response to the staggering pollution issues, India's Prime Minister Narenda Modi made pledges to increase India's renewable energy capacity.
Predictions for renewable energy over the next decade are promising.
Coal is Still A Major Player in India's Energy Game
Despite several conventional power projects reducing their reach, coal-powered electricity is still a strong presence in India.
Currently, India's government still foresees an expansion in coal-powered electricity sources over the next few years.
Coal-based capacities are facing competition, but we are not seeing them becoming irrelevant for some years to come and they will continue to serve the base-load demand.
