Janet Jackson – Any Time, Any Place

Arguably the sexiest and most raunchy Janet J track, this goes straight into the number ten spot. If it sounds familiar it’s because it does! The sample was used on the Kendrick Lamar/Drake 'Poetic Justice' banger.

2

Frank Ocean – Thinkin' About You

One of many great tracks from Frank Ocean’s debut album, Channel Orange. His second project released earlier this year didn’t quite hit the heights of tracks like this. It’s going to be hard to break the 90s slow jam monopoly but if anyone can drop a future classic then it’s this man.

3

H-town – Knockin’ The Boots

One of the many fantastic songs to sample the 1980s Zapp & Rogers classic ‘Be Alright.’ H Town stormed the charts with their 9-3 debut album ‘Fever for da flavor'. The lead single Knockin’ The Boots would put them down in slow jam history forever.

4

SWV - Weak

These Sisters With Voices have more classic tracks than most artists could dream of. You’ll be hard pressed to find a slow jam list that doesn’t have an SWV track!
Their 1993 track 'Weak' is one of those timeless RnB joints that makes it into everyones Spotify slow jam playlist

5

Miguel – Adorn

With this modern matrimony classic, Miguel firmly planted his flag as the contemporary slow jam King. This record is a genuine must have for any wedding DJ’s out there.

6

Jodeci – Freak N You

Top 5 time, we’re in deep deep waters now. One of the greatest male RnB groups ever, we could probably have filled this top ten with just Jodeci tracks, alas we’ve gone for 'Freak N You'. When this drops you know what time it is…

7

TLC – Red Light Special

These girls had everything; they could go from Crazy, Sexy to Cool in the drop of a hat. This slow jam classic epitomizes their feminine sexuality and strength to a tee. Tune.

8

Usher - Nice n Slow

This classic slow jam will be as much remembered for catapulting Usher into RnB super stardom as well as transforming him into the black Jet Li in this fantastically over the top, Mission Impossible style music video.

9

Ginuwine – Pony

Fellas how many times have you been in a club, the night's coming to an end and the DJ drops Pony… you slide over to the girl that gave you that EC (eye contact) over by the bar earlier and politely ask for a dance? If Ginuwine can’t help secure that number nothing can...

10

R Kelly - Bump N Grind

And so we have it, Block Party Cinema’s NUMBER ONE greatest slow jam ever. This track is like plutonium- only use it when it absolutely necessary as it can be dangerous for all parties. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

No doubt we’ve left out loads of tracks so feel free to jump in the comments section and share your favourite slow jam tunes.

You can hear all these tracks and more at Block Party Cinema’s special Valentine's Day screening of Poetic Justice. More info via the link below:
