5-year-old Mia Orecchio had a life-threatening kidney disease. Her father saved her.
One year ago, Mark Orecchio's daughter Mia was near death with a severe kidney disease.
Mia suffered from Polycystic Kidney Disease, which caused her kidneys to enlarge and become very painful. The cysts also interfered with Mia's kidney function, which was life-threatening.
She needed a kidney transplant.
When Mark Orecchio was discovered to be a donor match for his daughter, he immediately underwent the surgery to save her life.

Mia's doctor, Dr. Lorenzo Machado, performed the transplant.
"It always touches me when family members come forward, and they’re willing to put themselves at the risk of undergoing a surgery to help their loved ones," Dr. Machado said.
Today, Mia is a happy, healthy, normal little girl. And every Father's Day is extra special.
"I have the best Daddy in the whole world," Mia said.
"Every day is probably going to be Father's Day for her."
