Rifle Musket or Repeater?

You are armed with the repeating rifle! This rifle was scarce at first with many men having to buy their own, but quickly rose in popularity. The Union Army began to issue these rifles before the confederates. This gave them a great advantage on the battlefield. There was always the possibility that these weapons would jam, which is not common of the rifle musket. The overwhelming capacity of the repeating rifle still put it above the rifle musket many thought. Cavalry where the first soldiers to receive this rifle given their lesser numbers when compared to infantry and therefore more need for firepower. Full frontal linear assaults were eventually put out of the question.

Nevertheless, the majority of these men were not trained properly on how to take advantage of its increased range given the significant arc the rifle gave the projectile. Opinions varied, but there were men who believed this weapon to be superior to the repeating rifle because it promoted greater shooting discipline. Its main influence fell on sniping and skirmishing.
