This 98-year-old grandmother hopes to provide a ray of light to military members with her heartwarming letters

Alleen Cooper has always had a heart for the military. She began sending hand-written letters to the troops back in World War II.

As she reached out to the soldiers, she learned that many of them were lonely, injured or simply in need of comforting words.

Alleen Has Sent 7,000 Letters in the Last Six Years

Just six years ago, Alleen decided to begin counting the letters she sends. In that time alone, she's sent over 7,000.

A Unique Letter Every Time

Alleen makes it a point to send a unique letter every time she writes. She also completes each letter by hand, often writing four pages or more to each soldier.

Since she began her letter writing, Alleen has received commendations, flags and video messages from the soldiers to whom she writes.

No Plans to Stop

Even though her hands get tired these day, Alleen says she plans to continue writing to the troops as long as she can.
