Visit to the Dentist: A Nightmare for the Child or for the Parents?

Children's teeth require attention and treatment. This is absolutely obvious. That is why all parents face the fact that it becomes necessary to visit their kids dentist.  And if the child has a bad experience the first time, it is often impossible to get them to go the second time around.
Most often, kids, because of their fear, don’t want to go to the dental clinic. They try will often express this through their actions. He/ or she might cry or roll up in hysterics. That's why the child must be prepared even before their first visit to the dentist.
How parents can help?

  • Pay huge attention when choosing your dental clinic. Never  trust the child's physical or psychological health to a specialist who does not have enough experience to work with children.
  • Prepare the child for their visit to the dental clinic. Explain that the doctor will make their teeth healthy and strong. Otherwise, they won’t be able to eat their favorite sweets or fruits.
  • If parents will express their fear regarding future removal or treatment of teeth, those fears will be transmitted to the child. On the contrary, tell the child, how the dentist helped to you once.
  • As a psychological preparation you can use a game.  Ask him to play the role of dentist. Let him treat a sick tooth to his favorite toy. Such games will prepare the child for various manipulations carried out in the dental office.
  • The first visit to the dental office with a preventive goal should be made no later than 2 years after birth. Try to turn this trip into an interesting acquaintance with the doctor. At this age it is necessary to assess the condition of the baby's teeth and bite. If the child, opening the mouth for the first time, realizes that the doctor didn’t hurt him, then in the future he will be able to come to the dentist without fear.
  • Explain to the child why we need to visit the dentist and to treat our teeth. And how important it is to have healthy teeth. Buy baby toothpaste and toothbrush, teach them how to properly care for their teeth. Tell about the dangers of caries and what may happen if not treated timely. Explain to the child that the dentist helps people when their teeth hurt and that everyone visits him. There is no need to emphasize the baby's attention to the fact that it is necessary to remove or treat a tooth. Better let the dentist first examine the child and explain the necessary treatments himself.
