The current estimated African elephant population is approximately 350,000.

Of those 350,000 elephants, 130,451 live in Botswana alone.

Elephants have been moving into Botswana because poaching is illegal there, and it's a safe place to stay.

Sadly, poachers are now beginning to operate illegal in Botswana, and 21 elephant carcasses have been discovered there within the last few weeks.

Since 2007, Africa has lost approximately 144,000 elephants to poachers.

And in the last seven years, Africa has lost 30% of its elephant population.

An average of 30,000 elephants die every year.

At this rate, half of Africa's elephants will be gone by 2023.
